No, Elon Musk isn’t developing pregnant robots | Fact check

An Oct. 22 Facebook post (direct link, archive link) shows a photo of Tesla CEO Elon Musk alongside pictures of what appears to be a pregnant robot with a baby inside its clear belly.
“Breaking News!” the caption reads. “Elon Musk is currently working on a new version of robots that can carry your baby for 9 months while you go about your work. You and your husband just need to provide your sperm and eggs. The robot will fertilize them and allow the baby to grow inside for 9 months.”
The post was shared about 3,000 times in a week.

Musk has not made any such announcement, and no credible news outlets reported he has. Social media posts began circulating the claim after a Tesla event unveiling new technology, but a child-bearing robot was not announced at the event.
During Tesla’s “We, Robot” event on Oct. 10, Musk introduced a robovan and a robotaxi – but a pregnant robot wasn’t on the list. The YouTube transcript of the event shows Musk did not make any announcement about a pregnancy robot during his presentation. There are no credible news reports about such an announcement, either.
Nevertheless, social media posts spreading that claim started circulating soon after the event. The Facebook post, like many similar claims, included images of a pregnant robot pulled from a video digital artist Viktoria Blank posted on TikTok on Oct. 18.
The caption from Blank asks viewers to “imagine a world where technology and biology are no longer separate,” but makes no mention of Musk or Tesla.
Tesla did not respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.
Fact check: Robert De Niro isn’t on social media, wasn’t banned by Elon Musk
This isn’t the first time Musk has been connected to the concept of a child-bearing robot.
On Aug. 3, satire X account @NotElonMusk posted, “Should we design ‘pregnant’ robots that incubate HUMAN babies to solve the underpopulation crisis?”
The account states in its bio that it posts parody content. However, other social media posts connecting Musk to pregnant robots did not undefined
The user who shared the Facebook post did not provide evidence to support the claim and told USA TODAY, “I’m not sure if the information is true or not.”
Lead Stories and PolitiFact also debunked the claim.
